Ogakiku is a famous eel restaurant that first opened its doors in 1807. Currently, the restaurant is managed by the seventh generation of the family. Since its inception, Ogakiku has upheld the tradition of carefully and passionately grilling each and every freshwater eel (unagi). The restaurant building, constructed over a century ago, has been designated as a "Structure of Landscape Importance" by the city of Kawagoe. Prior to the war, the third floor of this iconic building was a gathering ... place for prominent writers, calligraphers, and wealthy individuals. For over 200 years, this traditional and distinctive restaurant has been frequented by locals in Kawagoe. Its characteristic and unparalleled glazed eel, as well as its exquisite Japanese-style black beef fillet, are the result of an ancient and secret recipe passed down through generations, making it one of the most unique and delicious restaurants in Saitama and throughout Japan.
