Uoara is a seafood restaurant located in the Maisaka fishing port in Hamamatsu. It is on the contact area between Lake Hamano and the sea, so the place is rich in fish species. They offer teishoku, (closed menu sets) with the main fish, rice, miso soup with clams, and a couple of secondary dishes (tofu with vinegared seaweed and pickles for example). The restaurant's most famous dishes are around shrimp or tiger shrimp. They are taken directly from the fish tank before preparation so the freshne ... ss is assured. They can be cooked in any style but the most requested are the tempura menu sets (katsutendon - freshly caught shrimp in tempura), full of volume, sweetness and umami. This dish has appeared several times on television and gastronomic magazines. The seasonal fish are, in spring baby sardine (Shirasu), summer sea bass (Suzuki), swordfish (Kajiki) and crab (kani), autumn snapper (Tai), winter oysters (Kaki) and Blowfish (Fugu). It is located near the old Honjin stop on the ancient Tokaido road that linked Edo with Kyoto. It has wonderful views of Hamano Lake and magnificent sunsets. A great place with local flavor and still little known by tourists. NOTE: Reservations are only available for big groups.
