Araiya Bangokubashi 荒井屋 万國橋店

Araiya Bangokubashi / 荒井屋 万國橋店

Araiya Bangokubashi is the branch of a former Gyunabe (beef pot) specialty restaurant founded in 1895 in Yokohama. Beef was taboo for religious reasons in Edo times. At the beginning of the Meiji era, with the opening to Western culture and commerce, meat became popular throughout the country. One of the first places where it became popular was in Yokohama, in the form of Gyunabe, a beef pot. It is similar to the traditional way of cooking fish, which later was derived to the current shabu-shabu ... and sukiyaki. Araiya from its inception was famous for its gyunabe. Their beef pot is based on a tradition of more than 120 years. Their entire menu revolves around Gyunabe, Japanese beef boiled with broth balanced with soy sauce, myron, sugar and sake. Its most popular derivatives are shabu-shabu (poached meat in a mild broth melts in your mouth) and beef stew. The selected ingredients are top quality: for Wagyu Kuroge, they buy two channels per month and cut them up themselves trying to get the most out of each cut. For lunch, there are great inexpensive casual sets including donburi and steaks. For dinner, we recommend one of the tasting menus. It has a modern Japanese style decor with a Meiji era atmosphere. The location is only two minutes away from Bashamichi station, in the Yamashita park area, and between the Minato mirai and Chinatown areas.
