When it comes to Yamamoto Menzou, be ready to lineup outside their shop. It is like a pilgrimage for locals and people from around Japan. Lately some foreigners have been arriving since the "rumor" has spread that here you can taste the best udon in Kyoto. Their famous udon noodles are homemade daily. They are cooked for each client. The noodles are slightly slimmer and the texture is elastic. Their signature dish is the Burdock Tempura, and some people like to combine it with the special curry. ... Another common dish is the fried chicken breast with udon. NOTE: Last year, the shop started to give a ticket with your approximate eating time when you arrive and place your order, leaving you time to go around and have a walk and return when it is nearly your time. We recommend you to be conservative in order that you don't miss your time. You should come slightly earlier than the time written on the ticket. It well worth the wait time. The wait is merely a test for Japan Gourmet Pass holders who love Udon.
